Celebrating its milestone tenth year, the awards ceremony took place on Saturday 5th October  at St Pierre Park Hotel, featuring an elegant black-tie event. The Guernsey Property and Construction Awards proudly recognize and reward those who consistently deliver excellence, technical expertise, and a steadfast commitment to putting customers first.

Attendees were invited to share the evening with colleagues, partners, and friends, creating a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie and celebration. Winners received stunning bespoke trophies, crafted locally, symbolising their achievements.

These awards shine a spotlight on excellence, best practices, and innovation within Guernsey’s property and construction sectors, emphasizing their vital role in today’s business landscape. The diverse range of award categories acknowledges the most significant activities across the industry spectrum, welcoming nominations from both the private and public sectors.

The Guernsey Property and Construction Awards provide an invaluable platform for employees to gain recognition for their hard work and contributions. They also offer companies and organizations the chance to showcase their success stories and demonstrate how they are excelling in their respective fields.

This year’s independent panel of five judges noted the exceptionally high standard of nominations, which made the selection of winners a challenging task. Organizer Karen Solway expressed her excitement about the nominations submitted, highlighting the remarkable efforts of the construction industry in Guernsey. She extends her heartfelt congratulations to all nominees, especially the winners.

Awards and judging

The judging panel independently scored each of the nominees, giving our overall winners, with the organiser being the only person who knew the winners.

2024 the award categories are:-

  • Rising Star Award – The winner is  Chris Croft – Concept 360
  • Industry Professional of the Year – The winner is Jez Thomas – Meervelds

Award category - Rising Star Award

Rising Star

The future of the property and construction industry in Guernsey is dependent on the development and commitment of new talented individuals in today’s businesses.  This award is to highlight and recognise those whose efforts and abilities exceed expectations and are clearly ambassadors for the industry.  In every sense a team player with a “can do, will do” attitude and an understanding of his/her employer’s vision for their organisation. Able to evidence high standards of work across a range of products/ projects, under a range of conditions and timescales.  Able to draw on his/her industry skills and personal attributes successfully to overcome a range of challenges. Able to demonstrate progression within his/her career, outlining all relevant training undertaken. Committed to the long-term future in the industry its clients, employers and the wider community.

Industry Supplier Of The Year

This award recognises the supplier that consistently demonstrate their commitment and professionalism in servicing the industry. A company ethos that embodies a sense of being a team player with a “can do, will do” attitude and an understanding of the client’s needs and expectations.  Able to evidence high standards of work across a range of products/projects, under a range of conditions and timescales. Able to draw on training and skills and personal attributes to successfully to overcome a range of challenges. Able to demonstrate success and their involvement in that success. Committed to the long-term future of the industry, its clients, employees and the wider community.

The winner is Bonsai

 

Award category - Industry Supplier Of The Year
Award category - Construction Professional Of The Year

Industry Professional of the Year

This Award could be described as the ultimate accolade for a person that has committed themselves fully to their chosen career, constantly demonstrating their professional and dynamic approach to what they do.  The nominee are good example to others around them, both in terms of their attitude and commitment to developing themselves, as well as the people around them, a caring person who works as part of a cohesive team. The nominees needed to demonstrate commitment to the long-term future of the industry, the community, and their clients. Examples of high standards of work were submitted.  By winning this category, the individual will have proved him/herself to be not necessarily the biggest or most prominent individual within the industry.

The winner is Jez Thomas – Meervelds

 

Internal Domestic of the Year

Nominations are welcomed for projects of internal renovations and conversions or extensions.  This category is for a project that was completed from 1st August 2023 to 31st July 2024.  Nominations can be made by anyone involved in the project, whether they are client, consultant, contractor, sub-contractor or supplier – but this must be with the client’s prior express permission. This award is not about design alone.

  • Recognition and demonstration of team effort. Illustrating the team working through the supply chain and sub-contractors. The winner will have demonstrated team working from parties such as the client, consultants, contractors, sub-contractors or suppliers.
  • Nominations must include information on the type of procurement used, and the project timescale.
  • Demonstrate the procurement of local resources through the supply chain and professional services.
  • Demonstrate quality control procedures for the project.

The winner is Murata – Studio

Award category - Engineering Project Of The Year
Award category - Best Small Project

Best Multi-Residential Project

The project may be any type of construction project, new build,  of more that one dwelling. nominations in this category for projects that meet the following criteria:   Recognition and demonstration of team effort. Illustrating the team working through the supply chain and sub-contractors. The winner will have demonstrated team working from parties such as the client, consultants, contractors, sub-contractors or suppliers.  Nominations included information on the type of procurement used, and the project timescale.  Prominent in submissions will be details of Health & Safety and an overall achievement of excellence in the relevant field.  Demonstrate the procurement of local resources through the supply chain and professional services.  Demonstrate quality control procedures for the project.

The winner is Sycamore ave – JGA

 

Award category - Best Small Project

Internal Commercial of the Year

Nominations were for projects of internal renovations and conversions or fit outs in commercial premises. 

  • Recognition and demonstration of team effort. Illustrating the team working through the supply chain and sub-contractors.
  • Nominations included information on the type of procurement used, and the project timescale.
  • Demonstrate the procurement of local resources through the supply chain and professional services.
  • Demonstrate quality control procedures for the project.

The winner is Moores Hotel – The Drawing Room

Best Single Residential Project

Nominations were for new-build projects for a single dwelling. This award is not about design alone. Recognition and demonstration of team effort. Illustrating the team working through the supply chain and sub-contractors. The winner will have demonstrated team working from parties such as the client, consultants, contractors, sub-contractors or suppliers.

The winner is Old Shoemakers House -A7

Award category - Best Large Project

Best Large Project

This category considers applications from architects, builders, developers or investors who wish to submit a project that was completed from 1st August 2023 to 31st July 2024. Nominations are welcomed for new-build projects, renovations  and conversions, engineering projects. Nominations need to demonstrate the teamwork involved between all involved parties, such as the client, consultants, contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers.

Nominations must include information on the type of procurement used, the completed value of the project, and the project timescale. Demonstrate the procurement of local resources through the supply chain and professional services. Demonstrate quality control procedures for the project. Demonstrate the environmental considerations and achievements for the project.

The winner is Jetho Chapel – Matt De Garis

 

Award category - Best Large Project
Award category - Lifetime Achievement Award

Lifetime Achievement Award

This prestigious and popular award continues in its current format. All are invited to make nominations. The purpose of this award is to recognise a ‘lifetime achievement ’. This is not necessarily an industry heavyweight, but someone who has made a significant contribution into the local industry at any level over a significant period.
